Lennis G. Echterling, an award-winning counselor educator, is a professor at James Madison University. Since earning his PhD at Purdue University, he has taught graduate students, provided counseling and therapy, and authored numerous books, chapters, and articles with colleagues. He has provided outreach disaster intervention services throughout the United States and around the world, including Hurricane Katrina and the Virginia Tech shooting. He has been helping support men and women through the Valley crisis team. He focuses on counseling education to prevent burnout and encourage flourishing within the counseling profession. He studies resilience, how people can be resilient in traumatic situations and how positive emotions can help in these situations.
