Rick Springfield is coming to the STL and he is on the phone right now
0:04
with us. What's up, Rick, Yeah, we're traveling towards you guys
0:09
right now. Our audience is loves eighties, obviously, and that's the name
0:15
of the tour. I want my eighties tour. I can't believe how popular
0:18
our eighties is. Again, what do you think is the reason? I
0:22
think it was great music. You know, it's kind of overshadowed by hideous
0:25
haircutts and leg warmers, but there's a great music. So I'm in great
0:29
memories, and I think people are responding to that. The more weird and
0:33
dangerous the world gets, I think we find shelter and the great music that
0:38
we loved as a kid. I liked my Big Hair, Thank you very
0:42
much. We all did you know you're you're such a talented musician. Who
0:47
are you excited about that's on this tour with you? Oh? They're all
0:50
great, great, great artists. The Hooters and I were actually on Live
0:56
Ahead on the same in Philadelphia, the same stage, and Tommy tooch Old
1:02
is known for quite a while. I'm pull young. I've in a big fan of for a long time. I loved his first record, so much
1:08
actually that I had his bass player play out La from London to play on
1:12
one of my records. That is amazing. And I'm amazed by your longevity,
1:18
the fact that you look amazing, by the way I think I read
1:21
that you're a vegetarians. I'm a vegetarian. Well, I was vegan.
1:25
I don't really eat garry actually, which makes me not a vegetarian. I
1:30
was vegan and I lost too much weight. I started. I felt great,
1:34
but I looked looked like hell. So I added fish back then.
1:37
Kind of Mediterranean diet, I think, is what I am. That's what
1:40
I do. Kind of they call it. I never called it anything until they gave it a name somewhere in the nineties. They called it pescatarian.
1:47
Yeah, pescutarian. I know everybody. Everybody loves the label, right exactly.
1:52
You look fantastic, look and sound exactly like you did before. I'm
1:57
not allowed to growl. Well, you're not doing what I do. I
2:00
just use botox and it's fantastic. So you've been to Saint Louis before I
2:07
have. I've been there a couple of times. I think you're not afraid of heights, are you, I know, but I have not been up
2:13
in the arch. Well, if you get a chance, I know you're busy, but if you can, it's we're very proud of that arch and
2:19
it's actually higher than Paris's Eiffel Tower. Oh well, I've been up than
2:23
the Eiffel Tower and that kind of freaked me out a little bit. I don't know about the arts. We take care of you. I promise that,
2:30
all right, thank you. So that everyone wants to come to this
2:32
tour, of course, what is it that you're excited about. It's a
2:37
great show, like Walter Walt hips from everybody, and I get to play
2:44
a new song from Iver play the old song. But it's always fun to
2:46
play new stuff. We look forward to the challenge. You're playing new music.
2:51
And I have an album out now, just came out on August Sport
2:53
called Automatic, and we do one of the songs called Automatic. You need
2:58
to do more than one song because new stuff is great. Yeah, we're
3:00
only doing the second show, you know, so we're going to a usually
3:05
two hours, so but yeah, one good for the short show you're doing.
3:09
About now, I think a little more than now, So of course,
3:13
the whole album automatic. You can get it. It's always dice for everyone involved. If you pay for it. Yeah, I don't care if
3:17
people download it for free. Musician, you know, writers, right,
3:23
so that we could share with other people. Never was about Yeah, I
3:28
just want people to hear the music. You know. You know there's all these musicals done on artists, and I think you should have your story as
3:38
a music. Yeah. I think they're looking at they've been looking into work
3:42
for a while. There's a bet a couple of writers involved in doing something
3:46
like that. I've had a pretty a pretty crazy life, very unusual,
3:51
and I wrote about my autobiography late late at night. I think that's what
3:54
they started to get interested in doing something with it. If people that are
3:59
listening, if they get a chance read the book, it's really good. You are very interesting and very unique life. And you know what is the
4:05
one thing. My son's a musician, but he doesn't want to be on
4:10
stage. He's going to be a teacher. But you know somebody, Yeah,
4:14
I'm so proud of Satan. He just loves music and he wants to share how to do it, compose it all that as a teacher. My
4:20
youngest son as a teacher, I love the fact that he picked a passion
4:25
over money, which is really rare. Well, you know, I mean,
4:29
you've got a passion has to come first, money will follow. I'm
4:32
being a musician does not necessarily mean money will follow, believe me. And
4:39
how is that? By the way, the ups the downs every musician,
4:42
I don't care how big, how small, who you are, you have
4:45
the ups and downs. What do you do when you're in a down? When you were in the down, what did you do to get back up
4:50
and to be positive? I looked elsewhere. That's why I got into acting.
4:55
I think I started I wanted more to do, and I started writing
5:00
books. So it's been say I can git him a double writer for our
5:04
So that's really what I've always focused on. I always call myself a writer.
5:09
I ended up in radio somehow, so I'm a DJ. Two Hey,
5:13
I'm a d Dononteerians next time. I love it. I love it
5:15
so people can hear you, they can read your book. Your new album is out, but more important, come and see you live. Yeah,
5:21
we have a great live show. I have an amazing band. They rock
5:25
hard and send everybody away hot and sweaty. I guarantee you and Saint Louis
5:30
Music Park is beautiful. You're gonna love it. You're gonna love performing there.
5:33
The sound, it's a really cool venue. Yeah. I heard when
5:38
Pat Benettar Neil Giraldo were there, they always ask I don't know, they
5:42
do some charity where people come up and they put money in. They said
5:45
that our city, Saint Louis, was the most charitable in all their touring
5:49
days. Now, yeah, so I mean we'll see what we can do
5:53
about that. Love dogs, I mean we're gonna do something with dogs.
5:57
Oh, that's fantastic. And it's National Dog Day? Is it month?
6:00
Oh? It is? When it's either When is it it was today?
6:03
I want to say it was today. That's appropriate for my birthday yesterday,
6:08
So aprop, your National Dog Day should follow. Oh, happy birthday.
6:13
I was born in Australia, so it works out of Amalio. So you're
6:15
born in Australia, but you sound almost kind of New Yorky. Well.
6:21
I actually when I started acting in Night Be seventy five, I went to
6:25
a voice school because nobody had ever heard of Australia back then. Eject people
6:29
ask me how long it took people learn English? Oh, I have to
6:31
have the I have the accent, you know down what's the voice to pick
6:36
open? Living amongst the native kind of help. Yeah, I still have
6:41
wallowed accent comes out when I drink and I love it. There's still tickets
6:46
available, not many, so you better get them. And so nice talking.
6:49
You appreciate your patience with our phone system, but what an honor.
6:54
You're welcome, Rick, You're great. Looking forward to seeing you. Yeah,
6:58
tell me a hotel
