1. Do I need to back off of my high-intensity workouts to improve blood sugar and blood ketone levels?

Hi guys,

I recently hit a weight loss plateau, so I decided to begin a small high-intensity training workout program called T25 Focus with Shaun T.  I test my morning glucose and ketones in the morning and I typically average about 1.5 mmol ketones and about 82 in my blood glucose. After day two of the workout, I decided to test my blood sugar and ketones thinking the exercise I did about an hour prior would increase my ketone levels. But imagine my shock when I tested and had a higher blood glucose level of 113, and lower ketones at 0.6 mmol.  Was the exercise too intense which caused stored glycogen to be released?  Should I be doing less intense exercise to keep my ketones and blood sugar in check?

Thanks for your help,

Josh, Ketonian for life

2. Can blood thinners diminish the presence of ketones in the blood?

Hi Jimmy and the Doc,

I love your podcast and I’m guessing like many other Ketonians out there that I stumbled on it. I’m glad I did and have ever since listened to nearly all of them once and about to go through them a second time. Awesome job keep up the great work!

My question for you guys is about the blood thinner I’m taking called Warfarin. Can blood thinners be impacting my blood ketones levels in any way? As a nurse, my gut response to this question would be no. But when I tested my blood ketones, the level was just 0.4 mmol. My usual blood ketone level prior to taking the blood thinners was closer to a range 0.6-1.2 mmol. When I test my breath ketones with a Ketonix, it indicates I have very strong ketones in the yellow to red range.

I have been keto for almost a year now and eat as clean as I possibly can. The only carbs I consume come from salad veggies and avocado. Is there any evidence supporting my theory that blood thinners reduce the level of ketones in the blood?

Keep up the great work you two!

Warm regards,

Barry

3. Can a ketogenic diet help someone dealing with psoriatic arthritis?

Hi Jimmy and the Doc,

I love your show and especially the experience that Dr. Nally has with using keto with so many patients in his office. I have a niece who was recently diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis and I was wondering if The Doc has any experience with or research looking at patients who have this condition where a ketogenic diet would help.

Thanks for any insights,

Dave from Toronto

- Are advanced glycation end products (AGEs) a concern for people eating a ketogenic diet?

Hi Jimmy and the Doc,

I am reading about advanced glycation end products (AGEs) and their content in foods. The high-fat and animal-based foods seem to contain the highest levels of AGEs, along with other popular keto foods such as avocados and almonds. What is your take on this seemingly disturbing problem with eating a low-carb, high-fat diet and have you come across any resources that can dispute these claims?

Warmest regards,

Penny
