Carl “Charlie” Brandt is something of an enigma. When he was 13, he shot his father and killed his mother, seemingly without provocation. Due to his age, he could not be indicted for the murder but a grand jury ordered that he be sent to a psychiatric hospital for further evaluation and treatment. After spending over a year in a psychiatric hospital, Charlie was released into the custody of his father. With his medical and court records sealed, no one knew anything about the reality of Charlie Brandt until September 15th, 2004, when the stabbed and mutilated bodies of his wife, Teri, and his niece, Michelle Jones, were discovered in Michelle’s Florida home, and Charlie’s body hanging from a bedsheet in the garage. Friends who thought they knew him as a quiet and agreeable man were shocked but his older sister Angela wasn’t. After the murders, she came forward with a horrifying story about the man many regarded as gentle and kind.
