On today’s episode, Mary Ellen indulges us with more on the topic of love and relationships by sharing the 2 major types of love, 2 major predictors of who you will love, and brushes over the 5 love languages. To start off, the 2 types of love people have are companionate and passionate. A companionate love shows two people who trust each other and share affection whereas passionate love shows a couple who are caught up in the honeymoon stage showing passion and short term love. Bringing back the attachment styles, our brains recognize love when we attach to someone that’ll send off the hug hormone, oxytocin, but this can send the hormone off consistently or inconsistently depending on a secure or insecure attachment. Following the 2 types of loves, Mary Ellen shares the 2 major predictors of who we love. First being we fall in love with people who are close to us, distance and relationship wise. And second is we fall in love with people who are similar to us where in this case, following Mary Ellen’s most recent episode, opposites don’t attract. To top everything off, Mary Ellen gives us the 5 love languages which are: acts of service, physical touch, words of affirmation, quality time, and gifts. To help us build our relationships and grow is understanding our partners love language to maintain a balanced connection.
