On this episode: Smell is on Instagram?? Full Service gets “signed”??? There’s a fly in Hoag’s beer???? Bonesaw goes on a TANGENT????? Also, we recap our latest tour out west, debate the precision of sun-dials, and choose the FS song that would best be suited for an arena introduction of an NBA team. In the new bassist Webber’s inaugural Whalepod, he and Smell begin recording before Hoag and Bonesaw are even present, which turns into a full-band discussion about our recent basketball game, Red Team (Bonesaw/Webber) vs. Blue Team (Hoag/Smell). This quickly devolves into a live backyard “Fight To Submission” between Hoag and Bonesaw with play-by-play commentary from Smell and Weber, which in turn spins into a conversation about the recent review of “Lockers” in the Austin Chronicle. This leads nicely into a “Which Band Member” trivia game which Webber CRUSHES, and what follows is a deep rabbit-hole of various topics, the highlight of which is that we introduce a new SPONSOR for the podcast; “PuzzoMetry”. Thanks to Jim Fox and his crazy puzzle company for donating to the cause! Listen for a chance to win a free puzzle!
In Episode 13 of The Whalepod, Bonesaw and Smell team up on Hoag in a big fight involving a yard umbrella. Other topics include a SOLID GOLD idea for a Full Service video game; Bonesaw’s story about his first and only Guns n Roses concert at age 12; our favorite Madonna songs; and our plans for the Full Service Circus TICKET SALE live webcast happening June 2. Thanks for listening. Share it around! Rate us on iTunes! Write a review!
With Bonesaw away at his 20-Year High School reunion, Hoag, Smell, and Weber hold a special Whalepod without their leader. The result? Weber tries to to teach Hoag and Smell how to pronounce the word "Exactly", Hoag is forced to lead a band meeting (AS Bonesaw), and Smell gives the scoop on his album from "Smell and the Other Senses". Also...we create a lot of sound effects for future use in the Whalepod.
On this episode of the Whalepod, it’s Circus week! And Hoag is 30 minutes late to the podcast even though he lives above the studio. Anyway, we’re late for the pick-up Ultimate Frisbee game so this synopsis ends here. Make sure to listen to the whole podcast though, because at the end we debut a NEW SONG!
On this week’s Whalepod: Weber tries to hiccup, sneeze, burp, and cough SIMULTANEOUSLY; Bonesaw describes his foam-pit accident: Smell gets super-pissed we didn’t invite him to a Trampoline Party; and we ask the question, “Has Hoag ever been brave?”
On this episode of the Whalepod, Smell recounts a harrowing plane ride he took in 2012; Hoag and Weber earn the nickname “Tha Gutter Boyz"; Bonesaw announces a very special guest for the August 9th Whalepod; and Hoag hosts a game of “Finish the Lyric”. Plus so much more.
Join Hoag backstage at the 311/Full Service concert in Austin, TX as he talks with 311 Drummer Chad Sexton. Topics covered include what Chad eats for breakfast; what his walk-up music would be if he were a Major League Baseball player; tour-laundry disasters; an intense emotional response he had while watching an Etta James performance on DVD; his approach to writing guitar or synth riffs for 311; how being a musician is a lot like being an athlete; how the band puts together that massive live group drum solo, and more!
P-Nut from the band 311 joins the Whalepod to discuss the new 311 beer "Beautiful Disaster IPA" as well as their "Amber Ale" - both brewed by Rock Brothers Brewing! Full Service stopped by 311's studio - The Hive - while in Los Angeles on their "Hop n' Along" tour playing craft breweries. Thanks to P-Nut, Tim Mahoney, Jason Walters and 311 Management (Peter Raspler) for a great convo!
This week, The Whalepod is on Spring Break, doing typical Spring Break things. So it's a shortie, as we simply call each other and check in on our goings on. Enjoy this very special, boutique-sized episode of The Whalepod: SPRING BREAK EDITION!
A shorty this week, as Bonesaw is in Idaho with his wife and Smell is trying to close on the purchase of a house! Weber and I have not burned the house down yet, but the week isn't over. ITEMS ON THE AGENDA include announcements regarding the release of our new album "Welcome Home", more "Whale Hotline" stuff, and the start of this summer's FSHQ Backyard Summer Concert Series (first of the season will be Thursday, June 15)
The legendary Kevin Russell, leader of the band Shinyribs, joins us at FSHQ for a conversation about songwriting, recording, dance moves, his drummer Keith, fig trees, crockpot cookbooks, venue security guards, dancing grandpas, twitter feeds, "Swamp Pop", and much more. Oh, and along the way we make Peacock sounds and do Axl Rose impersonations, which sort of ended up sounding like one another. Shinyrib's latest LP is called "I Got Your Medicine". Check it!
The official Full Service podcast In this episode, we don't ONLY talk about the rat that ate through Smell's jacket pocket because of a packet of oatmeal, but it was certainly the highlight for me.
Why doesn’t Hoag make his bed? Why does Weber have a soft spot for sloppy drums fills? Why does Smell like the word “Brewery”? And why does Bonesaw give Stevie Ray Vaughn a hall pass to use the over-used pop cord progression I-V-VI-IV? All this and more on episode 26 of The Whalepod!
In this special addition of The Whalepod, we compare ourselves to the Stranger Things crew, and Weber tells a SCARY ROAD STORY from this past weekend! HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
In this episode of the Whalepod, we discuss something we call the “Shifted Eighth Note Phenomenon”, wherein one of us brings a guitar or bass riff to the table and each of us inevitably interprets the first note landing on a different beat. Also in this episode…Hoag takes the afternoon off to go golfing, Weber gets mistaken for Bonesaw and doesn’t correct the guy, Smell wins big at the pinball arcade, and we all try to convince Bonesaw to throw a Full Service prom formal. And finally…announcements regarding release dates for our surf album (we also discuss album/band names for this project), and the remastered releases and bonus tracks packaged with "The Earth Still Wants You" and "The Dig” (originally released in 2008 and 2009).
In Episode 2 we play Pin the Whale on the Map, hear about the unfortunate incident of Smell's dog pee on the pillow, dish the deets on the new "Lockers" album being released via live webcast telethon, and wander through innumerable tangents such as city elections. Also...the debut of FS World New and Report featuring the great Chito Bambino!
Not your normal Whalepod episode. We read an article about Astronomy, barely. Lotta hard words and names of institutions.
Hoag and Bonesaw's parents are on the podcast! We cover a lot of territory. Juicy stuff, people. But the real treat is hearing ORIGINAL MUSIC by Momsaw and Dadsaw. No joke. Enjoy!
After a brief discussion about Dinosaur farts, we introduce our radio appearance on Montgomery County Community College Radio in Philadelphia, PA.
We wrap up the 2016 Full Service Circus!
Join me (Hoag), Bonesaw, Smell, and Weber for a trip down memory lane as we provide pithy commentary over a slideshow of Barry Dolton's photos from the Full Service Circus #3! We pulled the audio from our just-released 80 minute narrated slideshow documentary of this year's Full Service Circus and are releasing it here as an episode of the Whalepod. You can watch the full-length slideshow WITH the photos on our YouTube channel (fullserviceband).
This week on the Whalepod we invite JD Torian—owner of Austin’s Pizza—onto the show to confront Smell about the shadowy promises he made to Weber on last week’s episode about scoring him free pizza under the table. JD (Smell’s boss and an avid listener of The Whalepod) has been a long time supporter of Full Service with huge pizza donations for our events, networking opportunities, etc, and upon hearing Smell detail the best way to hook up a friend with free pizza on the sly, wondered if he should perhaps check in on a relationship he thought was trustworthy. This might be my favorite Whalepod of all time. This story, and much much more, on Episode 7, season 2 of The Full Service Whalepod.
More great vocab words like "inauspicious"! Recollections of our Badminton days! Full Service Saves Christmas! And memories from Grilled Cheese Bobby in Charlotte, NC! It's all here, and more, in episode 4 of The Whalepod.
This week on The Whalepod we discuss Full Service’s surf music alter-ego “Seaweed Sandwich” and its just-released debut album “Full Surf Hits”. Along the way we put Vitali on a boogie board and then on a shirt, give the listener clues on how to tell which band member wrote which songs, and formally break up the band, only to reunite 45 seconds later. (It was emotionally exhausting for us, and likely will be for you as well). Plus, the debut of two new segments; “Online Chatter” and “Steppin’ Away”.
