Episode 60 of The Get More Podcast: Capacity & What You're Capable Of

We are wrapping up Adaptability Month and today is all about identifying our capacity, and what we are capable of.

Your capacity looks different from everyone else's and it's important to uncover where your boundaries are, and what the limits look like so that you don't run right past those lines on a regular basis.

You also have different types of capacity like emotional/psychological capacity and physical capacity - and it can be very easy to find the limits of your physical capacity, yet difficult to set and protect the boundaries of your emotional/psychological capacity.

  • You can definitely figure out how far you can run, and for how long, before you reach your limits. Try and keep going and you will collapse.

  • The amount of weight you are able to lift has a big, clear, number on it and you know how high you can go. Try and pick something up that is heavier than your limit and you are headed straight towards an injury.

Yet trying to quantify the capacity of our emotions, or psychological limits is very hard to do unless you pay close attention to the warning signs.

  • Just like your muscles will give out when you reach your limits, your decision making and frustration or fatigue levels will give out when you are emotionally or psychologically 'done'. Try to keep going, without any rest, and you are headed towards burnout, stress, anxiety, and other health problems.

As you move through the week, observe what your limits are and what you might have to put in place that stop you from going over the limits as you get close to them.
