Well, hello there. It's Morgan here. And
0:03
for today's episode, I just want to share some
0:06
pros that I wrote for
0:08
the tired one.
0:10
Perhaps keep going does
0:13
not mean you have to keep running. Perhaps
0:17
to simply keep breathing is
0:19
a miraculous feat all on its
0:21
own, especially right now.
0:25
Perhaps it doesn't make you weak
0:27
for needing a bit more rest
0:30
or for needing a little bit more
0:32
room to slow down.
0:35
Maybe that's okay. Maybe
0:38
there is room for you to remember
0:41
those spaces that are sacred
0:43
to you. Remember those
0:45
spaces where you feel free
0:48
to just be
0:49
and not have to do anything. And
0:52
may you return to those places
0:56
as often as possible
0:59
because you might even need
1:01
more rest than you think you
1:03
need. You might need more
1:05
time to process than you've
1:07
needed in the past. You
1:09
might need more help and it might
1:11
be hard to ask, but
1:14
what you must know is that you
1:16
are allowed to ask. And
1:18
there is no shame in asking. No
1:21
matter what the response is,
1:23
you are allowed to
1:26
keep discovering new
1:28
ways to rest. rest. What
1:32
you must know is that you
1:34
are on a journey lined with grace,
1:37
no matter what others do or say.
1:40
What
1:40
you must know is that to be
1:42
here at all, to breathe here
1:44
at all
1:45
is a miraculous
1:48
act
1:48
all on its own. When
1:53
I originally wrote this piece,
1:55
I wrote it to a blue
1:58
background
1:59
and a white off-white
2:02
flower and the words to
2:04
me just kind of emerged
2:06
from that image and
2:08
the significance of that was
2:11
to paint some kind of flower
2:13
that
2:13
had a calming
2:17
setting around it because oftentimes
2:20
when at least for me when I
2:22
hear the word blooming or I think of
2:24
flowers I think of of this bright,
2:27
expressive flower
2:29
that is bold and feels
2:32
confident
2:32
with the sun rays shining
2:35
in on it. And while of course
2:38
this is a beautiful image,
2:41
what I wanted to show with
2:43
this image and the words that
2:45
go along with this image is
2:48
this idea of
2:50
really focusing on the flower
2:53
blooming as something that
2:55
happens relatively slowly.
2:58
When the flower blooms, it's not
3:01
running toward a bloom. It's
3:03
not climbing a ladder toward
3:05
a bloom,
3:07
at least in the way that a human
3:08
would climb a ladder. Even the way
3:11
that climbing roses will
3:13
climb upward isn't the way
3:15
that a manufactured
3:18
ladder would encourage
3:21
a human to climb up a ladder step
3:23
by step in a matter of
3:24
seconds. It still takes a
3:26
lot longer than a few seconds for
3:29
those roses to rise. So
3:32
what I wanted to illustrate was this
3:34
other part of the flower,
3:36
this other part of the blooming
3:38
that is a lot less
3:41
rushed because at times
3:43
comparing the flower to this idea of
3:46
keep going, keep going, that can easily
3:49
become associated with speed and
3:54
keep going as keep running.
3:58
And that's not what that has. to
4:00
mean the phrase keep going
4:03
can literally just mean
4:05
keep going in life
4:08
keep breathing keep
4:10
going into that inhale
4:13
keep going into that exhale
4:16
keep going into deep
4:18
thought keep going into
4:21
deeper ways of rest keep
4:24
going
4:24
in the pursuit of figuring out what
4:27
works and what doesn't There's
4:29
so many different ways that we
4:31
can keep going. I
4:33
think very similarly about the phrase,
4:36
don't give up.
4:37
Same thing. There are things
4:39
in life that we're just like, actually,
4:42
I'm really ready to give that
4:44
up. So just people pleasing.
4:46
That's one example of many. And
4:49
there are times in life where
4:51
don't give up for other reasons where
4:53
it's just like, that's not really helpful.
4:56
Maybe you're needing support
4:58
and hearing don't give up. It's just
5:01
kind of feels like someone's peering down
5:03
to you while you're in a pit of some
5:07
sort.
5:07
And somebody saying that isn't really uplifting
5:11
as it's not as uplifting as they think it
5:13
is. So I am
5:15
a huge
5:16
advocate of taking these phrases and expanding
5:18
them and finding different
5:22
ways, especially through art to communicate
5:24
these ideas. and it's through the colors,
5:27
it's through the flowers that I get there.
5:29
I don't just sit around and think of the stuff without
5:32
images, like it has to have some kind of image.
5:34
And I'm like, oh, this is a different way of
5:36
seeing a flower.
5:38
And there's something here thinking
5:40
about blooming, thinking about how
5:42
the perceptions of blooming and how
5:45
I even attach things to
5:47
that image of a flower blooming and
5:49
what I think that means. So that's
5:51
what I hope that that piece of prose
5:54
that ended up going alongside
5:56
the
5:56
art piece. and I'll link it in the show notes
5:59
if you'd like to see it.
6:00
I just hope to provide a little
6:02
bit of room to think about keep going so
6:04
the next time you feel that pressure to
6:05
Keep going and keep doing something
6:07
I just hope that it can be
6:10
an opportunity to just keep going
6:12
as a human to keep Keep
6:15
existing because that is a miraculous
6:17
feat all on its
6:19
own It takes a lot to be a human
6:22
especially in our modern world
6:24
the sheer amount of responsibilities
6:26
a sheer amount of Information overload
6:29
the things that we have to take in the things that we have to do
6:31
and consider There's a lot
6:33
to it.
6:34
So I just hope that gives you a little bit of room
6:36
to create some space and Before
6:39
we go I would like to leave you with a question.
6:42
What does keep going mean
6:45
to you today?
6:46
Thanks so much for listening. I'm Morgan Harper Nichols.
