Ep. 94: Tommy Peltier (Musician) talks about Judee Sill and the documentary - Lost Angel: The Genius of Judee Sill

Singer/songwriter Tommy Peltier started in the 1960s as a trumpet player, releasing LPs with Roland Kirk under the name The Jazz Corps. In 1970, Tommy switched to guitar and vocals and formed a close friendship with Judee Sill that would last throughout her life. With an acid folk sound not unlike Tom Rapp & Pearls Before Swine, these early 1970's recordings with Judee are released for the first time. Besides Judee Sill on vocals, guitar, and keyboards - the CD also features Lynn Blessing and Wolfgang Melz of the Gabor Szabo Quintet and Dave Parlato of Frank Zappa's "Sleep Dirt" LP. This enhanced CD also includes a video from 1973 of Peltier, Sill, and others performing in a television studio.

Lost Angel: The Genius of Judee Sill Documentary

The never-before-told story of folk-rock icon Judee Sill, who in just two years went from living in a car to appearing on the cover of Rolling Stone. The documentary charts her troubled adolescence through her meteoric rise in the music world and early tragic death. Featuring Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne, David Crosby, Graham Nash, Fleet Foxes, David Geffen, and more.

“The definitive documentary of a brilliant, innovative early’70s singer-songwriter.”

Variety

“An affecting film around which admirers and newcomers alike can gather to bask in the unique beauty of Judee’s work, and to follow the similarly distinctive trajectory of her painful and abbreviated life.”

The Wall Street Journal

“This forgotten music just has to be heard.”

The Guardian

“Elegantly using the limited amount of original material available to them, the filmmakers have created an immersive biographical documentary that tells the overlooked troubadour’s story as if told by Sill herself. In a word, their technique is genius.”

The Globe and Mail

“A great piece of lost classic rock history.”
