Episode 36 :: Rogue One Six Months Later: The Great Anthology Experiment

One of the most exciting things to come from Disney's purchase of Lucasfilm was the chance to tell new Star Wars stories on the big screen - stories beyond the ever-continuing the episodic saga. Films exploring The Old Republic, Boba Fett finally having a chance to really earn that fan following, tales of smugglers, scoundrels, and smarmy aliens - anything is possible. The debut spin-off film, Rogue One, was a ballsy first foray into a bigger cinematic universe; and with that risk came a Hutt-load of trouble. Rogue One released to great acclaim and profit, but what hasn't yet come out is the real story of what went on behind the scenes. In the months following the film's release, the rumors about drastic, character-reshaping reshoots have become more and more substantiated and fragmented clues about the movie's original narrative have been scattered like the dust of Alderaan across numerous filmmaker interviews. Was Rogue One a bad film saved at the last minute? A better movie made safer by focus groups? This film's production is a fascinating untold story, and in this episode we're assembling all the nuggets of insight we've collected. Who was Sergent Jyn Erso? Was Krennic ever a competent villain? Who lived and who died between reshoot and release? Will we see more 🌿 and 🍒? And perhaps biggest of all, what do the struggles of Rogue One and the meltdown of the Han Solo film mean for the future of these experiments in Star Wars filmmaking? Episode 69: A Thumb & Seven Eighths

Good morrow, lovely listeners, and welcome to Episode 69 (ooh er!) of Stacey's Pop Culture Parlour! Joining me in The Parlour this month are delightful regulars; my rather splendid husband, Rich, and our good friend and faux-Cockney, Phil! We're pretty much all over the shop in this episode as I suffer with sleep deprivation whilst the whiskey's a-flowin' for Rich & Phil. We talk about Baby Driver, how much Rich adores the Oh Hello live show, Phil & Rich's thoughts on the return of Twin Peaks, and how little I know about pop culture... All this, plus me not accepting the concept of Blood Drive and having a miniature meltdown over it, Rich watching Adam Sandler movies on purpose, and Phil suffering through Alien Covenant... Enjoy! Episode Theme - 'FM' by Steely Dan End Theme - 'Shadow' by Chromatics WARNING: Mild spoilers within, and some pretty tinny sound, sorry! It was hot as balls when we reocrded so we had the windows open, and removing the sound of the M6 wafting through reduced the quality a bit.

Episode 38 :: Han Solo and the Kingdom of the Crystal Porg

The suspicious shakeups in the Star Wars Universe keep on coming! In this episode we discuss Colin Trevorrow being booted off Episode IX and the return of JJ Abrams. Cap, Matt, and Doug also recap all the social media teases spinning out of the newly minted Solo - A Star Wars Story. Yeah, we don't love the title, so we made up some of our own. This summer, Ron Howard has been busy reshooting more of the film than expected. We discuss the cast that's been added and dropped, the major expanded universe surprises, and more. Plus, the first big batch of Last Jedi rumors (safely shielded behind our spoiler-proof blast doors) and new interpretations of the mystery presented by the looming Obi-Wan Kenobi film. Episode 39 :: Star Wars Novels: Retcon Artistry

In this episode Cap, Matt, and Doug discuss the latest Star Wars novels and how they've build on the bigger themes being explored in the new films. We also give you a run-down on what's happening in Star Wars comics present and forthcoming. We also learn how single player campaign for Battlefront II is deeply rooted in exciting stories from across the timeline and get deep into a game industry discussion that casts a critical eye to all the drama coming out of EA games. Rumors have been confirmed and the ominous conflicts between light, dark, and (most importantly) grey sides of The Force have taken shape. What's the F8 of Tr8tor? Who's the MVP of new cuteness -BB-H8 or the porgs? Will Santa Luke save Christmas? Where does The First Order get all those wonderful toys?
