Al Lubel trained as a lawyer, but after passing his bar exam he launched his parallel career as a stand-up comedian.
Al has always been a comedian's comedian, but mainstream success has always eluded him. Raised by a smothering anxious mother, fear and lack of independence have stunted his emotional growth. He talks about the fear of independence, sense of entitlement and narcissism that hinder his growth. More About Our Guest  For more about Al go to Support Our Sponsors! In this episode I speak to American comic, Al Lubel, about starting doing stand up at the end of the 1970s, gigging with Jerry Seinfeld in the mid 80s, winning a national competition in 1988, appearing on many of the major late night talk shows and winning awards at Edinburgh. We also talk about not quite being a star and some opportunities that didn't work out. Al was incredibly open and honest in this interview and I hope you enjoy it.
This week we are joined by one of the funniest and most original comedians in the game, Al Lubel!! Al has appeared on Late Night with David Letterman 5 times! He was even on the Johnny Carson show. We talk about how Al went from lawyer to comedian, working with Jerry Seinfeld, and The Power of Now. Plus, Al shares his philosophy of standup and why "Comedy needs lulls". Al is a fascinating guy and this is definitely one of our best episodes yet!
With nearly 80 years of comedy experience in this episode #32, American Al Lubel sits down with Joseph in Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2015 to discuss nuance and nonsense about appearances on The Johnny Carson Show and Letterman, Judaism and his masterful wordplay. Then in the later part Joseph sits cross-legged (and very nervously) with Jasper Carrott, The King of Comedy. Enough said. Subscribe to Itunes (RATE AND REVIEW) & follow us a @SHGPodcast & Facebook.
