Dr. Alden Harrington Young a political and economic historian of Africa. His work focuses on the ways in which Africans participated in the creation of the current international order, and he has done fieldwork in Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates. Currently, he is an Associate Professor of African American Studies at the University of California Los Angeles.Young is a contributor to Al Jazeera and Foreign Affairs and Foreign Policy. His first book, “Transforming Sudan: Decolonization, Economic Development and State Formation,” was published in 2017. Young received his B.A. in History from Columbia University, his M.A. in International History from The London School of Economics and Political Science, and his Ph.D. in African History from Princeton University.
