Alejandro Velasco is an American historian of social movements, urban politics, and democratization. He is on faculty at New York University. Velasco's first book was Barrio Rising: Urban Popular Politics and the Making of Modern Venezuela (2015). A frequent media contributor, his editorials and analysis have appeared in Nueva Sociedad, The Nation, the New York Times, the Washington Post, Current History, and others.
