Alize Arican is a cultural anthropologist interested in urban transformation, everyday practices and solidarities in changing neighborhoods, temporalities and spatialities of resilience and movement. Over the last few years, she has conducted fieldwork in the Tarlabaşı neighborhood of Istanbul in the process of urban transformation, with communities anticipating, negotiating and rearticulating the meanings and outcomes of this process. Alize is guided by engaged, feminist and activist methodologies as she conducts her work and writes about it. She has been active in Kurdish solidarity movements in Turkey and abroad, as well as grassroots organizations trying to mitigate the effects of gentrification. Alize grew up in Istanbul, Turkey where she received her BA from Boğaziçi University, before moving to Chicago in 2014.
