While imprisoned in Spain during the late eighties and early nineties Allan McCarthy formed a band "Berlin90". Despite the obvious barriers the band managed to win a recording session in a "Battle of the bands" competition organized by Spanish radio station ORM.This attracted the attention of the Spanish media and numerous interviews followed with the band appearing on many radio shows and featuring in many newspaper articles.The future seemed bright until without warning Allan was transferred to Madrid's notorious Carabanchel jail, considered the most dangerous prison in Europe at the time.The loss of the band's vocalist, guitarist and songwriter effectively ended Berlin90.Thirty years later Allan was interviewed by Spanish writer & presenter Angel Sopena who was one of the first journalists to highlight the band's story. Throughout the following thirty years Angel continued to play the bands music on his critically acclaimed radio show "Musica de Contrabando". Allan's meeting up for the first time in over thirty years for a forty minute interview with Angel seems to have sparked a new interest in the band as within a week of Angel's interview being published in over twenty Sunday newspapers covering all of Spain and it's islands Allan received dozens of requests from both the Spanish and UK media for more interviews.
