Amy L. Adamson joined the College of Arts and Sciences as an Associate Dean in 2019. Amy received her B.S. in Biochemistry from the State University of New York at Geneseo, her Ph.D. in Biology from The Johns Hopkins University, and was a post-doctoral research fellow at the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center at UNC Chapel Hill. Amy has been a faculty member in the Biology Department since 2000, and has served as Director of Undergraduate Studies, as well as on numerous Departmental, College, and University committees. Amy has taught courses across the undergraduate and graduate Biology curriculum, mainly in the areas of Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, and Virology. She has mentored 68 undergraduate researchers, as well as 16 M.S. and Ph.D. students in her laboratory.Amy’s research focuses on intracellular virus-host interactions. Her lab studies how human viruses affect cell biology at the molecular scale ~ most often viral-protein / cell-protein interactions and consequences. Supported by NIH funding, her lab studies the ubiquitous Epstein-Barr and Influenza A viruses. Amy is an NIH grant reviewer, and has reviewed for a variety of NIH funding mechanisms. She is an Academic Editor for PLoS ONE, and reviews manuscripts for a variety of other journals.
