Anthony Gaughan is a visiting professor of law at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. He is also the Kern Family Chair in Law and Professor of Law at Drake University Law School in Des Moines, Iowa. He is the author of many scholarly works, including the book, The Last Battle of the Civil War: United States versus Lee, 1861-1883.
A former U.S. Navy officer, he served with a joint task force in Baghdad during the Iraq War. He received the Defense Meritorious Service Medal and the Iraq Campaign Medal for his military service in Iraq. He also worked for five years as a litigator for a large Milwaukee-based law firm.
He is an elected member of the American Law Institute. He teaches Civil Procedure, Constitutional Law, Election Law, Evidence, and Legal & Constitutional History. He has won several teaching awards at Drake University and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
