Avi Shlaim is a historian who specializes in the history of Israel. He is one of Israel's "New Historians", a group of Israeli scholars who put forward critical interpretations of the history of Zionism and Israel. is an Emeritus Professor of International Relations at the University of Oxford and a Fellow of the British Academy. His books include "Collusion across the Jordan: King Abdullah, the Zionist Movement, and the Partition of Palestine," published in 1988, "War and Peace in the Middle East: A Concise History," published in 1995, "The Iron Wall: Israel and the Arab World," published in 2000, "Lion of Jordan: The Life of King Hussein in War and Peace," published in 2007, " Israel and Palestine: Reappraisals, Revisions, Refutations," published in 2009, and "Three Worlds: Memoir of an Arab-Jew," published in 2023.
