My boy Vance, aka "The Vanimal" stops by today to share the story of his baseball career. We played together in college and we discuss the great year we had back in 2008 and the process of how both of us got drafted after that season. He talks about life in the minors and how the different levels can really get to you when you're young and moving up quickly. He got to be the man for a little while in Philly and I ask him all about that experience. Lots of great insight from Vance today and I hope you enjoy! Today's episode is with Big Leaguer Evan Marshall, a buddy and former teammate of mine in the minor leagues during our days in Double-A and Triple-A. He is currently a reliever for the Chicago White Sox and has spent time with Arizona, Seattle and Cleveland during his amazing young career. We discuss his choice to go to Kansas State from growing up in the Bay Area of Northern California and his professional career up to this point. He has some great stories about what life is really like in pro ball and how crazy it can be to get called up and down in the same day. He also shares insight in to some great moments with ceremonial first pitches and even interacting with Jason Segel, the star of Forgetting Sarah Marshall. We finish with his take on the negotiations from the Players Union and MLB and how everything worked out in the end for both sides to have a baseball season. Today I get a chance to sit down with a former 2nd round pick of the Houston Astros. He played his college ball at UC-Irvine and actually threw a no hitter while he was there. We discuss his rise in pro ball and how a tragic overnight bus accident partially derailed his promising career. We dive into the different stops and organizations he played for, as well as how analytics started to become more mainstream during his career. He is on his way to becoming a professional golfer.
