Born on 27 March 1968, he is a professor of international politics at the Bundeswehr University Munich and also teaches at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and the Munich School of Political Science, where he serves as a lecturer and member of the senate. His academic work focuses on deterrence, alliance politics, and contemporary conflict. Masala has reached a broad public audience through frequent appearances on German television as an analyst of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, where he explains military dynamics, strategic risks, and possible escalation scenarios. He is known for developing hypothetical analyses of future military operations, including the Narva scenario, which has also been discussed by other security analysts.
