Dr. Carlton Thomas was born and raised in Dillon, South Carolina. He was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate at the University of South Carolina Honors College in 1994 and also attended the University of Leeds, England. He completed his medical degree at the Medical University of South Carolina in 1998 where he was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha.Dr. Thomas received his Internal Medicine training at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota. After his residency, he remained at Mayo Clinic until 2004 to complete a dual fellowship in Gastroenterology and Clinical Pharmacology in Mayo's prestigious Clinical Investigator program. The Digestive Diseases section at the Mayo Clinic is consistently ranked number one in America's hospitals in US News & World Report.Dr. Thomas moved to California in 2004 and has been in practice since then. He served as the Section Chief of Gastroenterology at Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage. While at Mayo Clinic and Eisenhower Medical Center, Dr. Thomas performed thousands of GI procedures and gained extensive experience in dealing with complex GI issues. He started private practice in San Diego in January 2010. He currently is affiliated with Scripps Chula Vista, Sharp Chula Vista, Paradise Valley Hospitals, and Scripps Mercy San Diego. He is also the proud father of twins.
