Charity Menefee is the Director of the Division of Public
Health for the Nebraska Department of Health and
Human Services. She oversees the day-to-day operations
of the Division which is responsible for preventive and
community health programs; epidemiology, informatics,
and vital statistics; as well as the regulation and licensure
of health-related processions and occupations, and the
regulation and licensure of health care facilities and
services. She would describe herself as a dedicated
servant leader who is passionate about public health.
Before joining DHHS in July 2021, Charity served at the
Knox County Health Department (KCHD) in Knoxville,
Tennessee for over 21 years in roles including director of
communicable and environmental disease and
emergency preparedness, disease investigator, public
information officer, and regional hospital coordinator.
Charity is also a Lieutenant Colonel in the Tennessee Air
National Guard, where she has served for 22 years and is
currently a Public Health Officer for the 134th Medical
Group.
Charity has a Master’s Degree in Security Studies from the
Naval Postgraduate School’s Center for Homeland
Defense and Security.
