Chris Traynor is an American guitarist, bassist, and studio musician. He has played with Orange 9mm, Helmet, Bush, Rival Schools, Institute, Gavin Rossdale, and High Desert Fires.
Chris talks about the difficult task of having to leave a band he founded, being comfortable (or not) in your own skin, discipline & commitment, being tied up to the chimney on his roof of his house - by his own dad… Bob Rock’s influence on him… his cool vintage gear, being a dad, and more. VERYreal and frank conversation with a powerful player, who’s a master of playing different styles of music: Chris started playing professionally while still a teenager in New York City. First with hardcore band Orange 9mm, then with alternative metal band Helmet. From here, he joined Gavin Rossdale and Bush and has been with them for 18 years. Along the way, he’s also managed to work with Peter Green, Katy Perry and Blur. This week we welcome the guitarist for Bush, Chris traynor, to the show. He gives us a little of his musical history with Orange 9mm, Helmet, and his seven degrees of Band of Susans. He tells me why, at one point in his career he was over electricity and how his OCD got him into faux painting. After that we get down to his almost 20 year connection with Gavin Rossdale and Bush. Chris gives updates on Bush, his work with Grey Daze, and how he’s working with newer bands like BRKN LOVE. Follow Bush @bush and follow Chris @ct3guitar. Follow us @PerformanceAnx and let’s get right into this show with Bush’s Chris Traynor.
