Dan Marokane is a South African engineer and business executive who was appointed Group Chief Executive of Eskom, the country’s state-owned power utility, in 2024. A chemical engineer by training, he holds degrees from the University of Cape Town and an MBA from New York University’s Stern School of Business, and also studied earth science and engineering at Imperial College London. Marokane previously served in senior roles at Eskom, including Acting Head of Group Capital, before leaving in 2015 during governance challenges. He went on to hold executive positions in the energy and industrial sectors, including at Tongaat Hulett, where he was an executive director. Known for his technical expertise and turnaround experience, he returned to Eskom to lead its restructuring and operational recovery efforts amid South Africa’s ongoing power supply crisis.
