Dr. David William Blight a historian. Currently, he is Professor of History, of African American Studies, and of American Studies and Director of the Gilder Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Resistance, and Abolition at Yale University.
Previously, Blight was a professor of History at Amherst College, where he taught for 13 years.
Blight is a frequent book reviewer for the New York Times, Washington Post Book World, the Chicago Tribune, the Los Angeles Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, the Boston Globe, and Slate. His writing on abolitionism, American historical memory, and African American intellectual and cultural history have appeared in many publications. His first book, "Frederick Douglass' Civil War: Keeping Faith in Jubilee," was published in 1989. He has published seven books about American History.
Blight received his B.A. and M.A. in History from Michigan State University, and his Ph.D. in American History from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
