Dr. Demetre Costas Daskalakis is an infectious disease physician and gay health activist. He served at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from 2020–2025, where he was Director of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, and, before that, Director of the Division of HIV Prevention at the National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention. During the Biden administration, he was Deputy Coordinator of the White House National Monkeypox Response.
