Gary Rivlin is a freelance author and former journalist. He has worked for several newspapers, including the Chicago Reader, the Industry Standard, and the New York Times. He has written ten nine books. His first book, "Fire on the Prairie: Chicago's Harold Washington and the Politics of Race," was published in 1992.
