Gerald "Dex" Poindexter is an award-winning writer, marketing professional and “whatever else” strikes his fancy. Dex is a past recipient of the Society of Professional Journalism award for online feature writing for a now-defunct Microsoft publication. He has written extensively about music and tourism for the San Diego Union-Tribune and remains steeped in traditional media and amused by social media. Based in San Diego, he’s dutifully on the day job grind as a marketer, while also freelancing in key B2B and consumer sectors including hospitality and real estate.
“Whatever else” includes 13-year stint as a club and lounge DJ informed by his mother’s love of Motown and The Sound of Philadelphia; his father’s focus on Hendrix and Steely Dan; his grandfather’s collections of Duke Ellington, Miles Davis and Sergio Mendes; and his next-door neighbors’ enjoyment of Tito Puente and Celia Cruz at peak volume. A native Philadelphian, Dex graduated from the American University in Washington, D.C.
