Jacqueline Riding is a historian whose research focuses on social history, culture, and urban life. She is the author of *Hard Streets: Working-Class Lives in Charlie Chaplin’s London*, published by Profile Books in 2025, which examines the everyday experiences of working-class communities in London around the time of Charlie Chaplin’s early life and career. Riding’s work situates Chaplin’s biography within broader contexts of poverty, labour, migration, and urban transformation, drawing on archival sources, personal narratives, and historical analysis. She has written and lectured on topics including British social history, cultural identity, and the lived realities of ordinary people in industrial and postindustrial settings. In addition to her book-length work, Riding contributes to academic and public history through articles, talks, and collaborative research projects.
