Joining me today for Episode #332 is Jason Burt, owner of EHIP Consulting. Jason is a Lean consultant and business coach with an extensive and diverse background, including a manufacturing career where he has led and coached organizations to increased levels of efficiency and performance. Using the Toyota Production System (TPS) approach has allowed him to positively change cultures to achieve sustainable improvements. During his time at Herman Miller, Jason spent 18 months learning TPS directly from Toyota as a Toyota Lean Consultant. Toyota and Herman Miller were in a partnership during his time with the company, which allowed him to receive direct coaching from Toyota Senseis for the entire 16 years. I was interested in talking with Jason about what it was like learning from Toyota's TSSC organization (a group that has done great work with a UCLA eye clinic and a food bank, to name two that I've featured on the blog). We talk about a wide range of topics, including common misunderstandings about TPS and Lean, the Toyota goals of developing people and their clients (knowing results will follow), and how he sometimes has to adapt to work with clients and their expectations. I hope you enjoy the conversation!
Jason Burt from EHIIP Consulting discusses the issues that arise when companies are challenged by growth. Lean Manufacturing is a methodology to help organizations create a self-sustaining, continuous improvement culture that addresses immediate issues and enables the resolution of future strategic initiatives surrounding growth, including maintaining quality, managing the labor expense, controlling COGS, and overcoming the push-back to change so that growth actually results in greater profitability, not just more revenue that yields equal or less bottom-line profit. Lew and Tim discuss real-world examples with Jason, whether the company has 10 employees or vastly more people on staff. For more visit mfgtalkradio.com Learn more about your ad choices. Lean Manufacturing and Lean Startups – Jason Burt – Ep60 Jason Burt is the owner of Evolve Holdings, which is a consultancy that focuses on teaching and applying the principles of Lean Manufacturing. Lean Manufacturing started off as the Toyota production system and centers around a continuous improvement culture and taking waste out of the manufacturing process. The first half of our conversation is about lean manufacturing and some examples. The second half of our talk is about the lean startup philosophy. The lean startup is about not wasting time adding features to a product without first testing to see if anyone wants those features. What you want to do is create a MVP (minimum viable product) and test with customers before putting more work into it. And when you get feedback from customers, you want to revise the product accordingly and test again. This is where 3D printing can be helpful, as it is very cost effective to edit and create a new version of a product. Contact info Linkedin profile Website ehiipconsulting.com/engineeringentrepreneur
