Armstrong's work has appeared in BBC Culture, The New York Times Book Review, Vice, New York magazine, and Billboard. Prior to becoming a full-time author, Armstrong was an adjunct professor at Columbia University. Before that, she was an entertainment reporter for Entertainment Weekly for ten years. Before that, she was a reporter for The Press Enterprise. Armstrong is a co-founder of the website, an alternative women's magazine. She co-hosts the podcasts "#Authoring" and "Pop Literacy." Armstrong received her B.Sc. in journalism from Northwestern University.
