Jim Campilongo is a New York roots-rock guitarist known for recording a series of mostly instrumental albums. He is also known for being a member of The Little Willies.
This week, we're sharing an epic conversation with one of our favorite musicians, guitar great Jim Campilongo. Jim shares stories about growing up in San Francisco, his early guitar lessons, his ever-growing LP obsession and some of the fateful encounters that helped shape his point-of-view as an instrumentalist. We then discuss his move from San Francisco to New York; his new, Sundazed Best of compilation; his ongoing collaborations with luthier Chihoe Hahn (Hahn's Model C tele-style guitar); plus a lot more. This is a rebroadcast of one of the more popular Everyone Loves Guitar episodes, while Craig is out on vacation. Jim has played with JJ Cale, Al Anderson, Gillian Welch/David Rawlings, Peter Rowan, Martha Wainwright, Bright Eyes, Teddy Thompson, and Burning Spear to name a few, has earned two Gold records, and has written music for national ads for National Grid, Volkswagen, SBC, Michelin and Jack Daniel’s... One of the most disciplined players I’ve ever met, Jim practices daily - usually arising at 4.30am to do so. Jim is a unique and creative player who crushes it on his 1959 Telecaster. He actually saw Roy Buchanan in concert close to 20 times. The lessons he picked up from Roy, were simply incredible - especially this one thing about vibrato, which I have NEVER heard before. There’s a reason why Jim has TWO signature guitars with two different companies...
