Joe Ide is an American crime fiction writer of Japanese American descent.
Authors on the Air host Pam Stack welcomes JOE IDE back to the studio to discuss IQ in HIGH FIVE.   Cristiana is the daughter of the biggest arms dealers on the West Coast, Angus Byrne. She's also the sole witness and number one suspect in the murder of her boyfriend, found dead in her Newport Beach boutique.  Isaiah Quintabe is coerced into taking the case to prove her innocence. If he can't, Angus will harm the brilliant PI's new girlfriend, ending her career. The catch: Christiana has multiple personalities. Five radically different ones. Among them, a naïve, beautiful shopkeeper, an obnoxious drummer in a rock band, and a wanton seductress.   Isaiah's dilemma: no one personality saw the entire incident. To find out what really happened the night of the murder, Isaiah must piece together clues from each of the personalities—before the cops catch up. Joe Ide is of Japanese American descent and grew up in South Central Los Angeles. Joe’s favorite books were the Conan Doyle Sherlock Holmes stories. The idea that a person could face the world and vanquish his enemies with just his intelligence fascinated him. Joe went on to earn a graduate degree and had several careers before writing his breakout debut novel, IQ, inspired by his early experiences and love of Sherlock. IQ won the Anthony, Macavity, and Shamus Awards and was nominated for an Edgar and a Barry. Joe lives in Santa Monica, California. HI FIVE is his fourth IQ novel. Joe Ide just published his third book in a series that features his ghetto Sherlock Holmes character Isaiah Quintabe AKA I.Q. I have had Joe on the program for all three books and it has really been a pleasure to see the development of this character and the author's rising profile in the crime fiction genre. In this one I.Q. and his sidekick Dodson take on a gang of former soldiers who have become sadists during the time they served in Iraq where they tortured prisoners under the supervision of a rogue CIA agent who is still their boss now that they are no longer in the service. Someone has threatened to release incriminating evidence of the torture they perpetrated and they will do anything and kill anyone to try to prevent that from happening. Now I.Q. and Dodson have gotten involved in this scenario and readers should prepare for the most sizzling action yet in this series. "Righteous" by Joe Ide Joe Ide returned to the program to talk about his second book in a series that features a fearless sleuth named I.Q. In his first book, the eponymous "I.Q.," we learned the back story of this young man who investigates crimes in a hardscrabble neighborhood in Los Angeles. He had been devoted to his older brother and after his brother was killed in a traffic accident that tragedy left the younger brother devastated and alone. Fortunately I.Q. has one fellow, a former drug dealer named Dodson, who serves as his reluctant sidekick. In the first book the two of them were actually operating a criminal enterprise together and now I.Q. is trying to make amends for his previous bad behavior. He's also determined to find out more about his brother's death, was it really an accident? Or, was his brother murdered? That's just one of the sinuous story lines in "Righteous." The author was a relatively unknown writer the first time he appeared on the program. This is no longer
