John David Kuchta was appointed a Special Agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in April, 1991 and has served in the Bureau in Washington, D.C.; Tampa, Florida; Afghanistan and London, UK. After graduating from the FBI Academy, Kuchta was assigned to the Washington D.C Field Office where he investigated gangs and major violent offenders. In November 1994, he was grievously injured in a gunfight with a violent gang member who was intent on killing officers employed with the D.C. Metropolitan Police and who took the lives of two fellow FBI Special Agents and a Washington D.C. Police Sergeant. Kuchta was awarded the FBI Medal of Valor, The FBI Star (law enforcement purple heart) and the Attorney General's Award for Exceptional Heroism in recognition of his split second actions under fire.
