John Powers is a film critic. Currently, he is the pop culture and critic-at-large on NPR's "Fresh Air with Terry Gross."
Previously, Powers was the film critic at Vogue, and before that, he was an Editor-at-Large of L.A. Weekly, where he wrote a media-culture column. He has also been a professor at Georgetown University.
Powers's work has appeared in Harper's BAZAAR, The Nation, Gourmet, The Washington Post, and The New York Times. His first book, "Sore Winners: (And the Rest of Us) in George Bush's America," was published in 2004. His second book, "WKW: The Cinema of Wong Kar Wai," co-written with Wong Kar Wai, was published in 2016.
