John Zachary Townsend is a writer, podcast host and producer, and director living in Brooklyn and the San Francisco/Bay Area (in the way that we are all temporarily Bi-Coastal in the COVID era).
JZT has written for Funny Or Die, College Humor, Poncho the Weather Cat, and Waif Magazine. He has written and performed live sketch comedy at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York, the Peoples Improv Theatre, the Annoyance Theatre in Brooklyn, and the Brooklyn Comedy Collective, in addition to several high end dive bars and bingo halls.
He also co-wrote and co-produced Standards & Practices: A Short Film About Modern Romance with director Ellena Soloner, based on their stage play of the same name, which had a one year run at the UCB Theatre in New York. The short film screened at several film festivals and was a Kickstarter Staff Picks.
JZT co-hosts, edits and co-produces I Was Scared, Too!: A Horror Movie Podcast, a podcast about horror movies (go figure). Previously, he co-hosted and produced the Sandler Handler, a podcast about the films of Adam Sandler.
As a director, JZT has directed several sketch comedy videos, on his Youtube channel and for the comedy duo Conlan-Williams Comedy.
He graduated from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts with a BFA in Film & Television.
He is also a Very Good Waiter.
