Katie Barnes is a sports journalist whose work focuses on athlete profiles and on legislation and policy affecting transgender athletes. Currently, they are reporting for ESPN. Barnes's work has appeared on multiple ESPN platforms, including ESPN.com, SportsCenter, Outside the Lines, and the ESPN Daily podcast. Their first book, "Fair Play: How Sports Shape the Gender Debates," was published in 2023. Barnes received their B.A. in History, Russian Area Studies, and American Studies fom St. Olaf College and their M.S. in Student Affairs in Higher Education from Miami University (OH).
