A diamond is formed from immense pressure and temperatures deep within the earth over a period of 1-3 billion years. We don’t have that amount of time to turn the pressures of today into something beautiful, we must do so NOW. Can we use this stress to inspire new gems of society, new philosophies, art, music, film, mentalities, mindsets? In episode 9 I talk about the world of 2020 and, as always, get into topics mainly surrounding art and creativity. I mention Henry Matisse and his influence on my recent paper cut-outs project, Rene Magritte, Chirico’s “The Song of Love” and think about the birth of artistic style.

An episode about my first love: Graphic Design. Firstly I discuss the current Covid-19 Pandemic sweeping the globe and give some updates on the podcast. I then discuss the hustle of carving out your own lane as a freelancer, what got me started on my own journey through design, what I've learnt along the way from Plymouth College of Art and Design (PCAD), to diving into the industry, finding work, building a client base and navigating the world of freestyle design. I get into typography, kerning, other technical parts of graphic design and give a nod to a fellow designer's book: Adrian Shaughnessy's - How To Be A Graphic Designer Without Losing Your Soul.
Changing the way in which you look at the world inside and out can be one of the most profound shifts in consciousness you'll experience. By examining old thought patterns and making a deliberate effort to playfully evolve these habits is not only a fundamental part of creativity but is also a truly rewarding experience for whatever life you choose to live. I make connections between skateboarding and a shifted world view, talk about training yourself to get out of old mental grooves and look towards a new way of thinking using a zoom in/out tool that can dramatically boost you in a direction you may have been wanting to go but have felt stuck. We all go through it.... maybe this can help...
