Dr. Mara Mills is a media historian who specialzes in sound studies, disability studies, the history of electronics, and the history of the telephone. Currently, she is Associate Professor of Media, Culture, and Communication at New York University.
In addition to her academic writing, Mills's work has appeared in Technology & Culture, IEEE Annals of the History of Computing, Grey Room, differences, Social Text, Film Quarterly, and PMLA. Her first book, "Hearing Loss and the History of Information Theory," was published in 2023.
Mills received her B.A.s in Biology and Literature from the University of California Santa Cruz, and her M.A. in Biology and Ph.D. in History of Science from Harvard University.
