Marco Rubio is a Republican politician, and currently serves as the senior United States senator from Florida. He previously served as speaker of the Florida House of Representatives. In 2016, he was ran to be the Republican candidate for President.
In the 1990s, Rubio was a city commissioner for West Miami. In 2000, he was elected to the Florida House of Representatives, and in 2006 he went on to be elected Speaker of the Florida House. In 2008, after his second term, he left the Florida legislature and became a professor at Florida International University.
In 2010, Rubio won a seat in the United States Senate in 2010. After losing the nomination for Republican Presidential candidate in 2016, he ran for re-election to the Senate, and won a second term.
