Marion McKeone has worked as a barrister, broadcaster, documentary maker and foreign correspondent covering events from the 9/11 terror attacks to the 2916 election campaign.
In this third instalment of our new An Irishman In America series Marion McKeone returns to talk about the latest developments in the US.    This week, Marion and Jarlath speak about Trump's mammoth Supreme Court Rulings, what he may be trying to keep from the public in his fight against Mary Trump's book and what Biden has to do to win the election.   Marion also gives her thoughts on Kanye West throwing his hat into the ring and whether the claims that he is trying to take the 'black vote' away from Biden are true. Finally, Marion explains why she feels there is change coming in relation to the handling of the police force across the United States while no real attention has been given to the humanitarian crisis that is seen at its borders.   To access our In America series in full each week and to hear all of our episodes in full, visit www.patreon.com/irishmanabroad and sign up for just the price of a pint every month. Marion McKeone doesn’t like talking about herself yet she has already lived one of the most unusual and varied lives imaginable. This week she sat with Jarlath and brought him through the unusual path she took to the USA. A DCU graduate before DCU was even DCU, she went on to study law and qualify as a barrister. She describes a scene in Dublin during the early 80’s that few have focused upon and explains why the misogyny of the time failed to reach her.  Jarlath discovers Marion's tear-away teen years where she went AWOL from a job as the least qualified tennis instructor at an American tennis camp after a prank involving the Soviet flag went wrong. Marion mourns the loss of that carefree America and compares it to today’s regime. We hear how she believes there is every chance Trump will be re-elected and why. Marion talks for the first time about her difficulty in separating her emotions during the #MeToo movement (Patreon Full Length Version Only) and why she still sees hope in the ability of America to re-imagine itself time and time again.
