Martyn William Percy is a British academic, educator, social scientist, theologian, and ordained priest in the Church of England, known for his commitment to middle-way Anglicanism and expertise in ecclesiology, contemporary Christianity, and theological education. He served as Dean of Christ Church, Oxford, from 2014 to 2022, and as Principal of Ripon College Cuddesdon from 2004 to 2014. Percy has also held teaching and research positions at the University of Oxford, King’s College London, Heythrop College, and other institutions globally. Since 2022, he has held academic posts in the USA, China, and Switzerland, and served as Dean’s Distinguished Scholar at Virginia Theological Seminary. Starting September 2024, he has been appointed Professor of Religion and Culture at the University of Saint Joseph in Macao and Provost of Ming Hua Theological College in Hong Kong. In 2025, he was named Honorary Canon Theologian for the Convocation of Episcopal Churches in Europe. Percy’s writings cover ecclesiology, religious movements, sociological trends, and pastoral theology, and he has been praised for his measured approach to fostering unity within the Anglican Communion.
