Matthew J. Cressler, PhD, is a scholar of American Catholicism, a writer, comics creator, and teacher. His research focuses on the role of religious communities in both challenging and upholding systems of oppression. His books include Authentically Black and Truly Catholic; Bad Catholics, Good Trouble; and Catholics and the Making of MAGA: How an Immigrant Church Became America’s Law and Order Faith. Cressler is chief of staff for the Corporation for Public Interest Technology, dedicated to creating ethical AI.
