In this episode we discuss the Mimi Chan and Greg Rucka origin story. I thought it would be fun to share how we met and how we ended up where we are today. Thank you to all the listeners who have been with Greg Rucka and I during our covid19 quarantine podcast marathon. These conversations have been one of the only positives to come out of the coronavirus pandemic. Greg also talks about the evolution of comic conventions over the years. He shares the good, the bad and the ugly. Don’t forget to read along with us and submit questions by October 1st for our book club. The next read is Greg’s very own Atticus Kodiak novels. We are reading Critical Space, Patriot Acts, and The Walking Dead . For those that don’t already know: Greg Rucka is a New York Times bestselling author of hundreds of comics and nearly two dozen novels. He is also the writer for the hit film The Old Guard starring Charlize Theron. I’m loving these conversations and hope you are too. If you are, please rate my podcast on your platform of choice! In this episode, I discuss a sensitive and personal subject: my experience with childhood sexual abuse. I have referenced being a survivor of childhood sexual abuse in past conversations.  I also discuss it in a previous episode dedicated to my original blog post. I chose to have this meaningful with my husband Oscar who is my support system.  Even after all of these years, talking about the subject is difficult.  I often get choked up during the interview, so thanks in advance for your understanding.  This is never an easy conversation for me. We also discuss our opinions on why survivors are not believed, steps to healing, and what each of us can do to improve this societal issue. Also, Oscar and I are not doctors or therapists.  This episode and blog post are for informational purposes only, and nothing is intended as professional or medical advice in any capacity. Please be smart and be safe. The episode is also not recommended for children. I’m grateful for these conversations and hope you find value in them. f you are, please rate my podcast on your platform of choice! It’s the Mimi & Greg show!  It’s been another rough week and I am grateful to Greg Rucka for continuing this podcast journey with me.  We have conducted 20 interviews since the beginning of the covid19 pandemic!  In this episode, Greg discusses a very personal subject, the arrest of his son Elliott in NYC at a BLM protest.  The inaccurate articles by the New York post and online blogs have caused death threats and stress for Greg and his family.  I am outraged. California and Oregon is on fire.  Our democracy is under attack by our president.  There are so many issues in the world: climate change, homelessness, inequality, need I go on?  Yet, journalists prefer to focus on attacking people who do not deserve it. The lack of due diligence by these so-called journalists was evident when I did a search looking for an article about the arrest.  The photo of Greg and I above was in an article, citing us as ‘the proud parents’.  I am not married to Greg Rucka, do not have any children…and am not the lovely Jen Van Meter. That is the sad state of journalism today.  The good ones are fighting to be heard and the bad ones are flooding the internet. I hope everyone listens to this episode with an open mind to Greg’s response to the article and shares his thoughts on the state of media today. Our next book club choice is Greg’s very own Atticus Kodiak novels.  We are reading Critical Space, Patriot Acts, and The Walking Dead and would love some listener questions for our future episode.
