Nilesh Kalyanaraman, MD, FACP, serves as the Deputy
Secretary of Public Health Services, at the Maryland
Department of Health (MDH).
Dr. Nilesh Kalyanaraman is a leader in improving health
outcomes by developing innovative collaborations
across health care, public health, and communities.
Most recently he served as the Health Officer in Anne
Arundel County from 2019 to 2023 and led the county
through its Covid response, the establishment of a gun
violence intervention team and the development of
community led health outreach to advance health
equity.
For over a decade prior, he has held leadership positions
at Federally Qualified Health Centers including Health
Care for the Homeless in Baltimore and Unity Health Care
in Washington, DC. He has led care transformation to
integrate social determinants of health into clinical care,
implement innovative reimbursement models, and
increase access to underserved populations.
He received a Doctor of Medicine from SUNY Downstate
Health Science University in Brooklyn, NY and was a AAAS
Science and Technology Policy fellow at the National
Institutes of Health.
