Omar Mahmood Fateh is an American politician serving in the Minnesota Senate, representing District 62, which covers parts of southwest Minneapolis in Hennepin County. A member of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party (DFL), he was elected in 2020 and made history as the first Somali American and Muslim to serve in the state’s Senate. Known for his progressive policy positions, Fateh has focused on affordable housing, healthcare access, and criminal justice reform. As of 2025, he is the DFL-endorsed candidate in the Minneapolis mayoral election, further expanding his role in local and state politics.
