Patrick Chung is a historian whose research focuses on United States foreign relations, military history, and global capitalism during the Cold War. He serves as an assistant professor of history at the University of Maryland, College Park. Chung is the author of "Standardizing Empire: The US Military, Korea, and the Origins of Military-Industrial Capitalism," published by the University of Pennsylvania Press in 2026, which examines how US military activity in South Korea shaped global economic systems between the Korean and Vietnam Wars. The book argues that the expansion of military infrastructure, logistics, and procurement contributed to the development of what he describes as military industrial capitalism, influencing governments, corporations, and labor across the US led world.
