Paul Broks is a neuropsychologist and science writer. He is a regular contributor to Prospect.Broks trained as a clinical psychologist at Oxford University and then specialized in neuropsychology. His career combined clinical practice with the National Health Service, basic research, and academic posts at the universities of Sheffield, Birmingham and Plymouth.Broks became a freelance writer after his entry in a writing competition at New Scientist magazine resulted in a book deal. His first book, which resulted from the contest, "Into the Silent Land: Travels in Neuropsychology," was published in 2003.Broks has written for documentaries, and has written for The Times, Sunday Times, Daily Telegraph, The Guardian, and Granta. His radio broadcasts include the History of Ideas 2015 BBC Radio 4.
