Dr. Portia Katrenia Maultsby is an ethnomusicologist who specializes in African-American music. Currently, she is a Professor Emerita at Indiana University, where she founded the university's Archives of African American Music and Culture.
Maultsby co-edited the textbooks, "African American Music: An Introduction," which was published in 2006, and "Issues in African American Music: Power, Gender, Race, Representation," which was published in 2016.
Maultsby received her B.A. in Piano, Theory, and Composition from Mount St Scholastica College, her M.A. in Musicology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and her Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology from the University of Wisconsin Madison.
