SERIES - Worshipping In Mr. Rogers Neighborhood: I Like You Just The Way You AreWhen Fred Rogers was a boy, and saw something on the news that scared him, his mother’s counsel to bring him comfort was, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’” The year 2020 will always be known as the year of COVID 19. Quarantines, stay-at-home orders, masks, and anti-bacterial soaps. While there were many who rose to the occasion by self-sacrificially serving on the front lines, helping neighbors or simply following suggested protocols, others stockpiled toilet paper. It’s normal to fear in situations like this, but could the way we manage that fear and how we respond in a crisis reflect on the trust and hope we find in our God?One of our #WholeLifeTakeAways this week asked: How possible do think it is for us to have no human as an enemy but rather make enemies of hate, meanness, greed, etc.?This might be the hardest hitting takeaway that I can remember. How possible is it? I wish this wasn’t a question we needed to ask ourselves in 2020, but yet here are we are. As Christians is there a more important show of love for our neighbors, the world, than to live our lives with love and equality for all? So many Christians will leave this issue at the feet of government which has been so complicit in the perpetuation of racism and class warfare that they need someone else to solve this issue. I propose that they need us, the body of Christ. The question that remains is whether or not we will answer the call.Send us your thoughts by using one of the following:■ Text/Voicemail:  407-965-1607■ Email:  podcast@wholelife.church■ WLC Mobile App:  Media Tab/Podcast Banner and Use Text and Email links■ Social Media:  #WholeLifePodcast/ #WholeLifeTakeAwaysDid you miss ‘Let’s Talk About Racism’? - Watch the online replay here: https://wholelife.church/lets-talkLet’s Talk About Racism Part 2 on Saturday, September 12. It’s normal to fear in situations like this, but could the way we manage that fear and how we respond in a crisis reflect on the trust and hope we find in our God?This week’s #WholeLifeTakeAways: Who might be invited “in” that would shock you, because you don’t see them as “included”?How easily do you categorize groups as “us and them”? Share or ponder a time when you were all “inclusive” until some “excluders” came along and you quickly switched to their side. When was the last time you were around a room of people who live life pretty much apart from God, and, how did it feel? Who is it hardest for you to sing, “I like you?”What might be some symbols (like Mr. Clemons and Mr. Rogers feet in the pool) that we could use today to signify inclusion? How possible do think it is for us to have no human as an enemy but rather make enemies of hate, meanness, greed, etc.?How do you like the “we” of the forest? How does your picture of God contribute to dread or hope? When God thinks about you love swells in his heart and a smile comes to his face!! SERIES - Worshiping In Mr. Rogers Neighborhood: What Do You Do With The Mad That You Feel?In 1968, the Vietnam War was being fought; Bobby Kennedy had been shot. Mr. Rogers realized that children were aware of these events, but they had no place where it was safe to talk about these issues. We avoid those things we don’t understand and what we fear. On the program, King Friday builds a wall to keep out what he didn’t like or understand. How does fear build walls? How important is it for the church to be a place where we discuss those things we fear and about which we may be angry? One of our #WholeLifeTakeAways this week asked: In the pursuit of neighborliness, this week who will you seek to understand better so you can be a better neighbor to them? So, who can you reach out to this week? It may need to be a phone call, a video chat, or maybe a socially distanced, masked faced, cup of coffee, or walk in the park.…the pandemic has changed things for sure, but not so much that we shouldn’t be seeking ways for God to use us. Has someone reached out to you as a neighbor during the pandemic? We would love to hear your story!  Send us your thoughts by using one of the following:■ Text/Voicemail:  407-965-1607■ Email:  podcast@wholelife.church■ WLC Mobile App:  Media Tab/Podcast Banner and Use Text and Email links■ Social Media:  #WholeLifePodcast/ #WholeLifeTakeAways‘Mister Rogers’ Links:A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (Movie): https://www.amazon.com/Beautiful-Day-Neighborhood-Tom-Hanks/dp/B081TLJDFP - also available on Hulu among others. Check your favorite streaming service!Finding Fred (Podcast): https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/finding-fred/id1477279443 - this show is widely available across podcast platforms.Won’t You Be My Neighbor?
